I’ve begun a new season! Its a ministry called Art and Soul Ministries and I’m very excited. This has been years in the making and has finally come to fruition! Through Art and Soul I will be sharing my sacred works with a contemplative practice called Visio Divina and teaching people to create their own art in a contemplative way that brings God close. These practices help people connect deeply with the creator and can heal and help calm our souls during hard times and bring us joy in good times. Do What You Love

Its been a long while since I’ve blogged. Some say blogs are dead, replaced with podcasts and video media apparently. “They” also say attention spans are short and no one reads anymore. Well...I’m a visual artist so images are important to my world. And I personally read. A lot. And I express myself in my writing, so blogging is still a good fit for me. If you have attention issues I understand, so do I. So I’ll keep things short and sweet here. Many of you know I quit art professionally to care for my dad for the last 7 years. That led to a very long artist block for me. I’ve done small things, mostly in my sketchbooks, but with no time or desire I only did infrequent small sketches. But to everything there is a season, and I find myself entering a new season. While I navigate this new season I am finding both the desire and opportunity to create again. But as I get my feel wet again I am a finding my skills are pretty rusty.

I spent a good deal of the day in my studio today working on some projects. Epic fails is more like it 😩 It can get a little disheartening when all your work is a pile of junk!! So what do you do?? You remind yourself its only paper. You remind yourself there’s more. There’s tomorrow. And then you remind yourself why you do what you do. You remember what you love and then you do what you love. What you know you can. What your good at. And you remind yourself that you can. You can. You enjoy the process and the running of the paint in the water. And remind yourself why you create in the first place.

So I did this very small watery, messy painting in the corner of a failed painting. That’s my accomplishment for the day. One tiny messy face. I love faces and figures and I’ve spent a lot of time on them and just messing around made me happy.  And each day as I get back in the game my work will show the progress. I know this. And so I remind myself: there’s always tomorrow!  (And more paper...)
